RURAL DEV. IN ONICHA LGA CONTD.

CLAW-BACKS IN RURAL DEVELOPMENT
Despite the aforementioned achievements in Onicha local Government Area stated in the previous chapter there still abound factors militating against the development of rural areas which includes:
 Lack of co-operation among communities
 Incessant outbreak of inter community war
 Lack of infrastructure n some rural areas.
 Corruption by the leaders etc.
In Onicha Local Government Area, some Communities
do not relate or co-operate with each other, because no one can foster in development with others, rural development in this council had been hampered by this societal vice.
There had been so many cases of inter community war and conflicts caused mostly by boundary conflicts. During these wars people are killed and injured, made homeless, infrastructures are destroyed, properties are destroyed. This kind of unrest makes it difficult for development to strife because development cannot be done in a chaos environment.
Some communities are completely marginalized in the local government area as regards infrastructure development. As at the time of writing this, communities like Mgbaleze, Mgbalaukwu, Obeagu, etc do not have good motor able roads, no good pipe water, and no electricity. How can a community develop without these social infrastructures?
Some leaders in the Local Government Area are so corrupt that they care less about their local government. I consider this as the main cause of the lack of widespread of rural development in the LGA. Even at the development centres level – some are given funds to develop their area, but mismanaged the funds. As a result of these, they leave the people of my LGA to whallow in abject poverty.
It should be noted that most projects carried out in the rural areas were done during the two tenures of the first democratically elected chairman – Hon Donatus Odii Njoku. What the subsequent ones have been doing, I do not know.

CONCLUSION
All hope is not lost in the quest of achieving rural development in Onicha Local Government Area despite the hurdles that seem unsummantable.
The following recommendation will be of great help;
 The state government should make funds available for the development of the rural areas.
 Democracy as a system of government should be sustained, since it is considered as bringing development to the grassroot.
 The inhabitants of the council area should be law abiding, honest and corporative in order to attract more development projects in their various rural areas.
 The leaders of the council area should ensure that peace exist in their rural area because no meaningful development can take place in dispute and crisis struck areas.
 Citizens should protect the already existing infrastructure ongoing ones from vandals.
 More boreholes should be sent to reduce water born diseases outbreak.
 More primary and post-primary schools should be established to curb illiteracy.
 The leaders should be focused and avoid corrupt practices.
Indigenes of the local government outside, the local government, state or even country should try and help in the development of the rural areas in the local government council.
